Hello dear girls.
This was my first experience of dyeing hair with natural dyes. Before that, I bought hair dyes without ammonia. I believe that such paints are less harmful, but still, after dyeing, the condition of the hair was always very far from the desired. Cream-paints are washed off quickly enough and my hair color becomes mouse-shabby with this terrible reddish tint. When this color bothers me a lot, and it happens quickly - I go to buy a new package of paint. The rest of the time I carefully care for my hair. So it turns out - with care I treat hair, and cripple with paints.
More recently, it took me the head to try natural hair dyes - henna and basma. It is known that with their help it is possible to achieve chocolate and even chestnut hair tones, which I just need. I always painted in such colors with the help of purchased paints.
I didn’t choose Henna and Basma for a long time, I just bought the first ones I got in the supermarket. After reading a huge number of different recipes, proportions, secondary ingredients, I still did not understand how it would be more correct. I was not afraid of the dark color, I was very afraid of the redhead. And I thought that if the color turns red, I can still paint it with basma.
Also, I did not understand which method of staining would be more correct: either apply henna separately, and then basma, or mix them together.
Alright, enough lyrics. I’ll tell you how I decided I ventured to do it.
My recipe: I mixed 2 bags of basma and 1 partial bag of henna (without 1 tablespoon). Separately, I brewed a decent amount of black tea brew in a glass + poured black coffee there. And when my broth was infused and cooled off a little, I poured them henna with basma.
I mixed all this to a consistency that was convenient for me and set about painting.
How the process of staining with henna and basma took place: Before staining, I protected my clothes with a towel, hands with gloves, smeared the skin near my hair with a thick layer of cream so that it would be easier to wipe everything off later. Then I began to apply the mixture to clean, dry hair. Used for applying only hands. I started from the back of the head, because it takes more time to stain it, then smoothly moved to the forehead area. And finished dyeing hair length. The main thing is to thoroughly stain the roots, because this part of the hair is not yet touched by chemical dyes, unlike my length.
Then I wrapped it all in a shower cap and fastened everything with a towel.
Do not forget to immediately wipe the bathroom, wash basin and skin from dyes, otherwise it will be more difficult later.
How much to keep henna with basma: I read that it is not recommended to keep it for more than 4 hours, otherwise you can dry your hair. I kept 2 hours 40 minutes. After that I went to wash off the mixture with water.
How to wash off henna and basma: it took a long time to wash off. Washed off the shower head, bending over the edge of the bath. All the water I was washing my hair turned almost black. But the mixture itself remained in my hair. To make it faster, I poured water into a bowl, dipped my hair in there, washed it thoroughly and poured water. After that, I easily washed all my hair.
Shampoo for washing henna and basma is not recommended, otherwise it will wash all the pigment from the hair.
But it’s hard to do without an air conditioner, it would be unrealistic to comb hair that was tangled after henna and basma.
Results after staining with henna and basma. I saw the resulting color only when the hair was dry. The color turned out to be chocolate and is no different from the purchased paint. The next day, the color became more saturated and final. Color suited me, although I wanted something darker. I even bought henna + basma to repeat the result, but for now I’ll refrain from it so as not to spoil my hair. And so good.
Condition of hair after staining with henna with basma. Most of all I was afraid to dry my hair. So, they didn’t become worse for sure. At the expense of the positive effect, I want to note that the hair has become thicker, stronger and more voluminous. A similar effect of thicker hair I get from a mask of colorless henna. And I like it.
Henna with basma is washed off as quickly as cream paint. But the longer they are painted, the more lasting the result will be.
I think that once a month I will repeat this procedure. This is much more useful and cheaper than purchased paints, the more I get the color that suits me.
On the screen you can see what color I got from the hair dye Garnier Olià Frosty chocolate.
The only negative is that it is very difficult to guess the required proportions, because it all depends on the original hair color, length and condition. In this case, you have to experiment. A negative result is quite possible. There are also many other nuances, for example: henna and basma should be fresh, you can also add other ingredients to the mixture (base oils, essential oils, herbs, lemon, tea leaves, black coffee, etc., etc.).
The following photos were taken 10 days after staining. During this time, I washed my hair 4 times and the color decently smoothed and faded. Therefore, staining with henna and basma will have to be repeated often.
