How to Retrieve Deleted Photos on iPhone

Check Recently Deleted Album

When you delete photos from your iPhone, they are not immediately erased permanently. Instead, they are moved to a Recently Deleted album where they remain for 30 days before they are permanently deleted. So, if you have deleted your photos within the last 30 days, you can easily retrieve them from the Recently Deleted album.

To access the Recently Deleted album, open the Photos app and tap on the “Albums” tab at the bottom of the screen. Then, scroll down to find the “Recently Deleted” album and tap on it. Here you will find all the photos that you have deleted from your iPhone within the last 30 days.

To retrieve a deleted photo, simply tap on it, and then tap on the “Recover” button located at the bottom right corner of the screen. The photo will be restored to your iPhone’s Camera Roll. If you want to recover multiple photos, you can select them all and then tap on the “Recover” button.

It’s important to note that if you have manually deleted photos from the Recently Deleted album, you won’t be able to recover them using this method. In that case, you will need to try one of the other methods such as restoring from an iCloud or iTunes backup or using a third-party data recovery tool.

Restore from iCloud Backup

If you have enabled iCloud Backup on your iPhone, then you can easily restore deleted photos from a previous iCloud backup. iCloud Backup automatically backs up your iPhone’s data, including photos, to the cloud when your device is connected to Wi-Fi and plugged in to charge.

To restore deleted photos from an iCloud backup, you need to erase all the content and settings on your iPhone and then restore it from the backup. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to “Settings” on your iPhone and tap on your name at the top of the screen.
  2. Tap on “iCloud” and then on “Manage Storage”.
  3. Find your iPhone in the list of devices and tap on it.
  4. Tap on “Backups” and then on the backup that you want to restore from.
  5. Tap on “Delete Backup” and then on “Turn Off & Delete” to confirm.
  6. Go back to “Settings” and tap on “General”.
  7. Scroll down and tap on “Reset”.
  8. Tap on “Erase All Content and Settings” and enter your passcode if prompted.
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your iPhone as a new device.
  10. When you reach the “Apps & Data” screen, select “Restore from iCloud Backup”.
  11. Sign in to your iCloud account and choose the backup that contains your deleted photos.
  12. Wait for the restore process to complete and your deleted photos will be restored to your iPhone.

Note that this method will replace all the data on your iPhone with the data from the selected backup. So, make sure to back up your iPhone before starting the restore process.

Retrieve from iTunes Backup

If you have backed up your iPhone using iTunes on your computer, you can easily retrieve deleted photos from a previous iTunes backup. iTunes creates a backup of your iPhone’s data, including photos, when you connect it to your computer and sync it with iTunes.

To retrieve deleted photos from an iTunes backup, you need to connect your iPhone to the computer that you used to back up your iPhone and then restore it from the backup. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open iTunes on your computer and connect your iPhone using a USB cable.
  2. If prompted, enter your iPhone passcode or select “Trust This Computer”.
  3. Click on the iPhone icon in the upper left corner of the iTunes window.
  4. Click on “Restore Backup” and choose the backup that contains your deleted photos.
  5. Click on “Restore” and wait for the restore process to complete.
  6. Once the restore process is finished, disconnect your iPhone from the computer and check if your deleted photos are restored.

Note that this method will replace all the data on your iPhone with the data from the selected backup. So, make sure to back up your iPhone before starting the restore process. Also, if you have encrypted your iTunes backup, you will need to enter the password to restore your iPhone from the backup.

Use a Third-Party Data Recovery Tool

If the above methods do not work, or if you have permanently deleted your photos, you can try using a third-party data recovery tool to recover your deleted photos. There are many data recovery tools available in the market, both free and paid, that can help you recover deleted photos from your iPhone.

One popular data recovery tool is EaseUS MobiSaver. It is a user-friendly tool that can help you recover deleted photos, contacts, messages, and other data from your iPhone. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Download and install EaseUS MobiSaver on your computer.
  2. Connect your iPhone to the computer using a USB cable.
  3. Launch EaseUS MobiSaver and select “Recover from iOS Device”.
  4. Click on “Scan” and wait for the scanning process to complete.
  5. Preview the deleted photos and select the ones that you want to recover.
  6. Click on “Recover” and choose a location on your computer to save the recovered photos.

Note that some third-party data recovery tools may not be able to recover all deleted photos, and they may also have limitations on the number of photos that can be recovered for free. Also, make sure to download and install the tool from a reputable source to avoid any malware or virus infections.

Prevent Future Photo Loss

Losing precious photos can be heartbreaking, but you can take steps to prevent it from happening in the future. Here are some tips to help you prevent future photo loss on your iPhone:

  1. Enable iCloud Photo Library: This feature automatically stores all your photos and videos in iCloud, making them accessible from any device that’s signed in to your iCloud account. This ensures that even if you lose your iPhone, your photos will still be safe in the cloud.

  2. Backup your iPhone regularly: Make sure to back up your iPhone regularly to iTunes or iCloud. This will ensure that all your photos and other data are safely backed up and can be easily restored in case of any data loss.

  3. Avoid using unreliable third-party apps: Some third-party apps may not be secure and can lead to data loss or theft. Only download apps from reputable sources such as the App Store.

  4. Be cautious when deleting photos: Take a moment to review the photos before deleting them. Accidentally deleting photos is common, so be careful when tapping the “Delete” button.

  5. Use a photo management app: There are many photo management apps available that can help you organize and manage your photos. These apps can also help you free up space on your iPhone by removing duplicate or unwanted photos.
